We are of course talking about their intentions in the EV market. After the e-tron GT which is based on the same platform as a Porsche Taycan, Audi decided not to offer its customers a new model, but a model they allready know, just electrified. So here is an Audi A6 concept, which shows us how the electrified Audi A6 of the future will look like.
At the first glance, it allready looks promissing. An elegant side profile, which has more in common with a 4 door coupe than a business limousine, pronounced wheelarches and interesting light signature is making sure that you won’t miss one when you see it. Despite it being a concept, that might not be that far in the future because this concept is allready 95 % ready to hit the production. That means that what you see here is almost what the customers will be getting somewhere in 2023, when the official launch is scheduled.
Audi A6 e-tron will be built on the new PPE(Premium Platform Electric) platform, which was co-developed with Porsche. The first production car to actually be based on this new platform will be Audi Q6 e-tron with the first electric Porsche Macan probably soon to follow. This platform will sit above the Volkswagen’s MEB platform, that is a base for all the VW ID models, Škoda Enyaq and even Audi Q4, but still below even more luxurious and sporty J1 platform, which underpins both Porsche Taycan and e-tron GT.
Audi says that the most powerful A6 e-trons will get an impressive 468 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, as well as a 100kWh battery. That battery will offer up to 700 km of electric range, and a maximum of 270kW charging capability. That means that just a 10 minute charge will add about 300 km of driving range which is enough for the next 2-3 hours of your business trip.
There will be rear wheel drive (in an Audi?) and quattro versions of the electric Audi A6 when it arrives in 2023 with a big possibility that Audi will later also add more practical Avant models on the same platform. Even fully electric Audi RS6 e-tron is not excluded. This still doesen’t mean that this is the end of an internal cumbustion Audi A6. Up till 2030 Audi still thinks that they can live side by side in perfect harmony.
