Porsche just released one of the most highly enticipated 911 variants in their portfolio. This is the new 911 GTS and it is suposed to be the bridge between a regular Carrera S and full blown GT3. It was always ment to be for those who want more sportiness, but not at a cost of it being a worse daily supercar. Sure GT3 will alwasy be better to drive, faster and more special, but you can’t live with it every day can you?
The GTS was released just a week after the presentation of a wingless GT3 Touring, and it has something to show. For the start, you can now buy a GTS badged Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa variants, with the latter only being available with a all wheel drive, where on the other two variants, all wheel drive is optional. The most notable difference on paper is offcourse a 30 HP and 20 Nm bump in power and torque, making it a tiny bit faster than regular Carrera S. 3.0 liter twin turbo flat-six is now making 480 HP and 570 Nm of torque, which is enough for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds in its most potent configuration.
With 480 Horsepower, 570 Nm of torque and 0 – 100 km/h time of just 3.3 seconds, the new 992 911 GTS surely isn’t lacking in the performance department.
Besides a brilliant eight speed PDK, there is also an option of a seven speed manual gearbox, which should be interesting for those who still want some action in their modern era porsche. Another thing that you can’t get in you regular 911’s is so called Lightweight Design package. It includes carbon bucket seats, lightweight battery and also deletes rear seats to save some more weight. That should save you a total of 25 kg, but you also get a rear axle steering included.
Porsche has also tuned its Porsche Active Suspension Management specifically for the GTS, which sits 10mm lower than the standard Carrera. That should provide even better handling and agility, which go hand in hand with added straight line performance. One of the most interesting features are also optional bigger ‘Turbo’ carbon ceramic brakes, and centerlock wheels which are usualy reserved only for GT products.
Like before 992 GTS also gains some darker trim pieces, including black Race-Tex microfiber inside, and spoiler elements and LED headlight surrounds on the outside. Like before it will be quite a bit more expensive than your regular Carrera S, but when you take into consideration all the standard equipment it suddenly makes more sense.
